Alaska Celtic Pipes & Drums are fully committed to teaching piping and drumming to those in our community who would like to join our Band, and we sincerely believe that if you’re willing to put in some honest effort, you’re never too old or too young to learn to play.

Piping Students:

Pipe Major Richard Christiansen supervises all one-on-one instruction for beginning and advanced piping students. He has organized a structured learning piping curriculum that, along with your hard work and determination, will enable you to reach your full potential to play! Instructors include seasoned, award-winning pipers from the Band.  Alaska Celtic Pipes & Drums provides all instructional materials for beginning Piping Students. Please contact the Band one week prior to your first lesson, and we will have an instruction book ready for you. Piping Students can purchase a new, quality Practice Chanter with reed directly from the Band for $75 at the first lesson.

Drumming Students:

Christine Christiansen, our Drum Sergeant and Lead Drummer, teaches all Drumming courses. She is an accomplished Side Drummer (Snare), as well as a top Grade 1 Tenor Drummer. Instruction includes the Scottish Side (Snare) Drum, Tenor Drum, and Bass Drum. Alaska Celtic Pipes & Drums provides all instructional materials for beginning Drumming Students. Sticks and Pads are available to purchase from the Band at the first lesson for all beginning Drumming Students Please contact the Band if you are interested in beginning drumming lessons.

The Band meets regularly for weekly practice every Friday 6:30-8:30pm at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 18444 Old Glenn Hwy in Chugiak (on Old Glenn Hwy between North and South Birchwood Loops) We heartily welcome any experienced Pipers and Drummers in the area to come to our regular weekly practices and play with us! Even if it has been a while since you’ve played regularly, we can help get you sorted! Come on out and join us!

Throughout the year on Fridays 5:30pm-6:30pm we hold lessons for beginners and intermediate pipers on chanter and bagpipe, as well as lessons for beginner and intermediate drummers (Scottish Side Drum, Tenor, and Bass.) During the normal school year, we also hold beginning and intermediate chanter and drum lessons at UAA/Mat-Su College, Room FSM 207 (upstairs in main admin building, in the “Music Room”) on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30pm. Lessons are by arrangement, prior to weekly practice at each venue.
